Shopify SEO audit checklist: fix the catalog before you write another article

Shopify SEO is catalog and templates, not “more blog posts”. Checklist for titles, collections, canonicals, sitemap and Product schema.

Shopify SEO is a template problem first

Default titles, duplicated collection copy, faceted URLs, and product schema that does not match the visible price are the usual leaks. Publishing weekly blog posts will not repair a theme that emits the same meta description on 2,000 SKUs.

A Shopify SEO audit reads the storefront: sampled product titles, collection indexation, sitemap coverage, and structured data. It is not a content calendar.

Product and collection hygiene

Unique titles that include the product, not only the brand. Indexable product URLs. Collections that do not cannibalize each other with thin filtered copies. Canonicals that point at the URL you actually want in Google.

  • No “Welcome to our store” as a sitewide title pattern
  • Sitemap includes products you sell, not every leftover draft
  • JSON-LD Product / Offer matches price and availability on the page
  • Image alt on sampled PDPs — empty alt on the hero is a catalog bug

What we leave out on purpose

We do not promise rankings. We do not treat “add a blog” as the default SEO fix. International hreflang for a single Shopify market is a separate project. If you need the generic ecommerce SEO audit, use that landing; this checklist is Shopify-specific (theme, Online Store, apps that rewrite titles).

Turn the list into evidence

Run the Shopify SEO audit so each item is backed by a URL and a screenshot, then keep this page as the human map. Methodology explains axis weights and sampling limits.

FAQ

Does Shopify SEO mean writing more articles?
No. Catalog titles, collections, canonicals and schema usually move the needle first. Blog is support content after the templates are clean.
Will you submit my sitemap to Google?
No. We tell you what the storefront exposes. Search Console stays yours.
