Most “low conversion” Shopify stores do not have a theme problem
Replacing Dawn with a paid theme is the expensive way to keep the same leaks: a buy box below the fold on mobile, review apps that load late, a cart drawer that hides shipping, and collection templates that bury the product. A Shopify CRO audit starts on the live storefront the shopper sees, not in the theme customizer.
Getmoresales fingerprints the platform, samples product pages, and ranks conversion, catalog SEO, speed and trust on one scale. If the first finding is “install a new theme”, the audit failed.
The three leaks we see on Shopify PDPs
First: the add-to-cart block is not in the first mobile viewport, or it competes with a slideshow, size guide popup and three app blocks. Second: social proof is missing or injected after LCP, so the first paint looks untrusted. Third: variants, stock and delivery are split across accordions the shopper never opens.
None of these require Shopify Plus checkout customization. They are storefront facts. We do not complete a real checkout; we still score the cart/theme patterns that are visible.
- Sticky add-to-cart that covers the real CTA or the legal links
- Review widgets that shift layout after load
- Selling plans / subscriptions that hide the unit price
- App pixels and chat that steal tap targets on a 390px screen
Apps are a conversion surface, not a plugin tray
Each review, upsell, popup, loyalty and “recently viewed” app adds JS, CLS and another opinion about the buy box. A store that “isn’t converting” often has a stack that was added one by one to fix symptoms. The audit should list the visible apps that change the PDP and whether they slow LCP.
Deleting apps is a product decision. Ranking which ones hurt the first five seconds is an audit job.
Do not wait for a magic conversion-rate number
Industry CR tables are marketing. Your mix (AOV, traffic source, catalog) is not “fashion 2.8%”. Until we publish panel medians with n ≥ 30, we will not invent a benchmark here. What you can do today: score this store against itself after you ship the top three leaks.
Run the Shopify CRO audit, then the store audit if you also need catalog and speed in the same report. Methodology weights are public.
